General Information:

Textbooks:

Through student book fees paid at the beginning of each school year, The King's Academy provides all necessary textbooks and a student planner.
Wherever possible, text books have been selected for their biblical foundation. Students are asked to take good care of their textbooks and return them in good condition. Unnecessary damage or loss will be at the student’s expense.

The use of Scripture in the classroom is a fundamental, integral part of the education process at The King's Academy. For this reason King's Academy
recognizes the importance, not only of the use of Scripture, but that it also selects a version that has those qualities which enhance the education process.

There are several Bible translations which are widely accepted by conservative, evangelical scholars as quality works for study. Each translation has strengths and weaknesses. However, to avoid confusion in the classroom, it is necessary to select a translation for schoolwide use. TKA recognizes The New International Version as the translation normally used in the classroom for study, quotation and memorization. This decision was made for several reasons:

  • the modern language, grammar, syntax, and style
  • the ease of reading
  • the widely accepted use of the NIV

The strengths of the NIV may be viewed by some as a weakness and another translation preferred. In those cases the parents may request in writing an exception for use of another translation by their child for memorization.

Grading Scale:

A = 90 – 100%
B = 80 – 89%
C = 70 – 79%
D = 60 – 69%

Credits in Escrow and Advance Placement Classes:

The Credits-in-escrow Program:

Credits-in-Escrow classes allow juniors and seniors who are eligible to earn dual credit, for high school and for college, while taking classes at nearby colleges: Taylor University; Indiana Wesleyan University; and IVY Tech Community College.
These classes are offered at reduced prices.

Guidelines for participation:

  1. TKA Freshman and Sophomores should work to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher in order to establish eligibility for the program.
  2. Student will meet with the principal/guidance counselor about qualifications to participate, recommendations, and scheduling options.
  3. Student and parents must contact the college/university, select classes, obtain a credits-in-escrow application, obtain TKA approval, and turn it in to the college where student will be taking classes.
  4. Student must make his own arrangement for transportation to and from college classes.
  • Students may not miss chapel or Bible class to attend Credits-in-escrow classes.
  • They are expected to continue as active participants at TKA, in school activities and leadership opportunities.
  • Participation in the Credits-in-escrow program is a privilege not a right and should be treated as such.
  • Student scheduling of classes is always subject to TKA administrative approval.
  • Students who do not meet TKA Honors GPA standards, may still participate in the credits-in-escrow program as long as they maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Advance Placement (AP) courses:

At times TKA will offer classes at TKA which will be available for dual credit. These classes will be announced as they become available.

Summer Honors programs:

are also available at the local universities. Student must contact the university’s admission office for admissions requirements and guidelines.

Graduation and College Enrollment Rates:

Since May, 2005, we have had 92% of our 37 graduates enroll in college/university. Additionally, 69% of our students began college courses during high school through the credits-in-escrow program (mainly at Taylor and Indiana Wesleyan).
